4:00am

What is it about this time of the morning that I always find myself laying in bed, wide awake? I suppose it's because that's when Ola usually gets up for work and, subsequently, that's when Henry has to go for a walk. But I don't have to get up. So why does my brain automatically activate? Does this mean I'm getting like those old people who sleep like 2 hours a night? You know, I've caught myself squinting lately and I've been wondering if I might need new glasses. Is this yet another sign of intense aging? It's only 4 in the morning and I'm already bumming myself out.

Congrats to gypsywandering for her outstanding exercise efforts post-feast! You inspire me because you know I found lots of other things to do yesterday BESIDES exercise. Yeah. Which means that this hiney needs to find the gym before I'm unable to get in my fabulous new booty pants.

The Day After Gluttony

Yes, the remorse has set in. I have been doing so well with eating right--avoiding sweets, drinking only sugar-free sodas, keeping away from fried foods--and yesterday I fell off the wagon.

The mushroom soup didn't excite me and neither did the goat cheese salad. But that rum raisin custard pie (topped with sweetened whipped cream, of course) went down like gangbusters. And that thing called for almost 4 cups of heavy cream and 6 egg yolks! Ugh! Do I actually feel my arteries hardening this very moment? I should stop typing this post and call my cardiologist.

Anyway, today's a new day. I started off the morning right with my usual nonfat iced latte. And I figure a nice yoga session and some bike riding should get me back on track (if only I can get my fatness off this bench to actually DO IT).

I hope you all are feeling much less guilty that I am. If not, let's you and I make a promise to exercise today and get back on the skinny bus. I'm saying a little prayer for you. :)

Red Wine & Thanks

It's Thanksgiving...again...which means we're that much closer to Christmas. But that's another post. The things I'm thankful for this holiday are many, but I'll try to narrow my list down for brevity's sake. Here goes:

  • For my health and the health of my friends and family
  • For my husband (How did I get so lucky?)
  • For the world-altering bottle of 2003 Saint Felicien Malbec a friend brought us from Argentina (Good God, where can I buy more of this?)
  • For Norwill--now we can have our Norwegian Christmas and eat it, too
  • For goat cheese (brown or white, this stuff makes everything taste richer)
  • For the fact that I'm not only passing, but doing well in my scholastic endeavors
  • For the "driving" mode on my cell phone (everyone should be able to multitask without causing a ten car pileup)

So what are you thankful for?
